Hospice Services Provided

Among its major responsibilities, the Hospice Interdisciplinary Team:

  • Manages the patient’s pain and symptoms. Symptom management is an important part of hospice care.
  • Medication regimens are kept as simple as possible with a minimum number of drugs for effective comfort care.
  • Provides needed drug, medical supplies, and equipment.
  • Coaches the family on how to care for the patient.
  • Provides continuing education regarding disease progression and what to expect as the patient nears death.
  • Assist the patient with emotional, psychosocial, spiritual aspects of dying.
  • Spiritual support for the patient and family. Chaplain services for those patients and families who wish spiritual counseling before making an end of life decision.
  • Makes short-term inpatient care available when pain or symptom becomes too difficult to manage at home, or the caregiver needs respite time.
  • Provides Bereavement Services and counseling to surviving family and friends, as well as to the community as requested.
  • Spiritual support, as requested, for patients and families.
